Our School

Founded in 1978 by the Mothers of Many and the Black Belt Arts & Cultural Center, McRae-Gaines Learning Center has been a pillar of educational excellence in Selma. We provide high-quality early childhood education for children 12 months through second grade, using a rigorous curriculum in reading, writing, math, and science to prepare students for academic and social success.

Rooted in the belief that "education must not simply teach work—it must teach life," McRae-Gaines serves Selma’s working families with affordable, high-quality education. Our programs include award-winning Kindergarten instruction, arts enrichment, continuing a legacy of excellence and inclusion.

At McRae-Gaines Learning Center, our mission is to provide quality education for every child, from the least to the greatest. Inspired by educators Mable McRae and Oralee Gaines, we are committed to ensuring that all students, regardless of background, receive a strong academic foundation in reading, writing, math, and science.

Through rigorous academics, creative expression, and community partnerships, we prepare students for success in school and beyond. By fostering confidence, curiosity, and a love for learning, we empower children to reach their full potential and become future leaders.
